Data Management

Like other WA regional NRM groups, Wheatbelt NRM has adopted a suite of policies and procedures for the collection, storage, use and maintenance of spatial information generated from all projects in the future.  This will facilitate quality control in data management and promote consistent standards across regions.

Datasets generated as part of projects are required to have:

Data Management Plan
A data management plan provides a plan for managing data for its entire life cycle, including who the owners and custodians of the data are, where information is stored and how and who is responsible for maintaining that data into the future, along with many other important considerations.

Metadata Statement
A metadata statement is simply ‘data about data’, and enables people and applications to find, understand, manage, control, use and maintain datasets.

Data Dictionary
A data dictionary is a table that describes the fields and attributes of a dataset. Data dictionaries do not contain any actual data from the dataset, only information about the dataset that is required for interpreting it and assessing whether it is suitable for project use.

ACC Regional Spatial Information Management Toolkit
Through the SLIP NRM Info Project at the Department of Agriculture and Food WA, the ACC Regional Spatial Information Management Toolkit has been developed.  The toolkit has been developed for all those involved in NRM activities, across a range of organisations or community groups in the region.  It can be used as a resource book by project managers and by those responsible for collecting, using and managing spatial data.  It outlines the spatial information management policies and procedures for the Avon region and brings together other useful resources, tools and templates for accessing and managing spatial data and identifying standards for data collection.

If you would like a copy of the Wheatbelt NRM Regional Spatial Information Management Toolkit, please contact the Michelle Kidman, Wheatbelt NRM.  Alternatively, you can access an online version of the WA NRM Spatial Information Management Toolkit.
