Malleefowl Conservation
Informed and Integrated Community Action
Project Outline
The project will support the WA Malleefowl Network and encourage the delivery of malleefowl conservation initiatives in line with the National Recovery Plan for Malleefowl. The project is cross-regional, covering all areas where malleefowl habitat extends including the Avon, Rangelands, Northern Agricultural and the South Coast regions.
Timeframe and Funding
The position is part of a 3 year Natural Heritage Trust project.
Proposed Outcomes
- Strengthen cooperation and linkages between malleefowl groups within the WA Malleefowl Network (WAMN).
- Support and monitor the WAMN and provide executive support to quarterly WA Malleefowl Network meetings.
- Facilitate support and capacity building activities to community groups within the WAMN.
- Facilitate a collaborative approach to malleefowl conservation in Western Australia through developing joint initiatives to aid in implementing the National Recovery Plan.
- Represent WA on the National Recovery Team.
- Assist in the coordination of a state-wide community monitoring at key sites and ensure that the results are communicated to the National Recovery Team.
- Promote the work of community groups and assist in expanding and consolidating community initiatives.
- Encourage cooperation and communicate information to all groups in the Network to ensure the information is consistent.
- Increase networks and education delivery in regional areas to further promote community stewardship of malleefowl and to promote a broad conservation agenda relevant to rural communities such as remnant vegetation protection and feral animal control programs.
- Review and finalise the State Action Plan for Malleefowl.

Status
The WA Malleefowl Network Facilitator commenced in April 2005.
