Salinity Monitoring Strategy for the Avon River Basin
The Avon Catchment Council ‘Salinity Monitoring Strategy for the Avon River Basin’ has been developed by GHD Consultants and includes an assessment of regional salinity risk which informs the broader regional salinity monitoring strategy. The report contains a definition of newly defined sub-regional boundaries within the Avon River Basin reflecting the underlying geomorphology of the region; slope analysis defining primary salinity hazard areas with relevance to salinity risk assessment and target setting; a review of existing salinity monitoring frameworks including Land Monitor, stream flow and groundwater monitoring and; recommendations for preliminary sub-regional salinity targets. The report, which is currently a draft for comment will be presented in a seminar by Matt Giraudo (Senior Environmental Hydrologist – GHD Consultants) at the Department of Agriculture & Food, Western Australia, South Perth on October 30, 2008 from 9:30 AM.
