This document is a desktop study of culvert material and design in the context of the Avon River Basin. Salt affects around 14100km of roads across Western Australia, a figure that is predicted to rise to 27920km by 2050. The purpose of this report is to highlight the different culvert materials and treatments that are available, which can extend the service life of these assets and hence, reduce the frequency with which they must be replaced. Th emost important finding of this desktop study is that the selection of appropriate culvert materials and correct culvert installation can significantly increase the service life of these structures.
